SALT Bakery & Recovery is a cottage food bakery focused on artisan sourdough loaves, cookies, and cupcakes. Our passion lies in creating organic, handcrafted baked goods using traditional methods. However, our greatest joy comes from supporting and promoting recovery and addiction programs in the community.



Our Mission and Roots
SALT Bakery & Recovery was established with a deep-rooted commitment to artisanal baking and community wellness. Founded by Shannon Markel in 2025, after her own struggles with alcoholism, her journey began with the aim of not only providing delectable treats but also fostering a supportive environment for those on the path to recovery. Shannon will be retiring from a twenty year career in law enforcement and aspires to continue to serve her community through love and service. "We can accomplish anything one day at a time as long as we have intention and purpose. I believe everyone deserves a second chance at life, and I don't believe in giving up. As long as we have each other we have a way out."
SALT stands for Shannon's Artisan Loaves and Treats and was created after being encouraged to find other hobbies in-lieu of substance use. Shannon started baking as a therapeutic way to help her recover from her disease. Baking became a passion and she started bringing homemade baked goods to 12-step meetings in the community. The items were well received which inspired her to do more. Shannon has continued to hone her craft with variations of sourdough, focaccia and cookies and cupcakes. Although SALT is a brand-new business, Shannon has plans to give back to 12-step programs, sober living houses, as well as raise awareness in the community about this life-threatening deadly disease. In addition, I hope to be able to help those who have changed their lives and are still struggling to acquire employment.
